The International Yoga Festival (IYF) is held at Parmarth Niketan Ashram, in cooperation with AYUSH Ministry of Government of India, Uttarakhand Tourism and Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam (GMVN) since the year 1999.

The IYF was originally a creation of Uttar Pradesh Tourism when Rishikesh used to be a part of U.P. Initially, it was held at Hotel Ganga Kinare in the first week of February. The festival attracted a small number of participants mostly from India and some from Asian countries. In 1999, the Government of Uttar Pradesh approached Parmarth Niketan Ashram to host the Festival at the ashram.Since then it has grown into one of the most renowned festivals in the world, attracting hundreds of participants from many countries across the globe to learn from dozens of yoga teachers.
