Pradeep Sangwan’s campaign of cleaning Himalayas and clearing off the plastic waste from different areas of the Himalayas garnered praise and acclamation  from Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his “Mann Ki Baat”

Pradeep Sangwan, is the founder of Healing Himalayas foundation. Healing Himalayas is a team of volunteers that has been at the helm of cleaning tonnes of plastic and tourist waste in and around Himalayas since 2016.

The world’s greatest achievers have always been consistent in their efforts and Pradeep Sangwan is a stellar example of how actions speak louder than words.

In an attempt to regain the beauty and natural charm of the pristine Himalayas, Pradeep Sangwan started an organisation by the name “Healing Himalayas”.

Pradeep Sangwan, the founder of Healing Himalayas has accumulated many high-spirited young volunteers who have taken upon themselves to make sure the Himalayas stay clean and conserved.

Pradeep aims to keep the Himalayas plastic-free. He treks for an average of 2,000 km every year and has helped collect over 5 lakh kg of non-biodegradable waste in the past few years.

Healing Himalayas conducts special activities, mass clean-ups and events in the community and schools to create awareness about the maintenance and restoration of the environment.

The foundation established in April 2016 conducts 40 to 45 weekend treks each year, which help in cleaning the trekking areas littered by the tourists.

Every year in December, Pradeep designs a calendar for the following year, listing out all the weekend treks. He has been trekking for more than a decade and a few years ago, he felt he couldn’t be a passive spectator to the plastic being discarded in tourist spots of Himachal Pradesh.

His work and efforts have been well lauded by the mainstream and international media featuring his tireless contribution in The Forbes, The Weather Channel, The Better India, The Hindu and many more.

In his last ‘Mann Ki Baat’ broadcast of the year, Modi, while talking about new resolves for the new year, said there are some people who continuously keep doing something new and keep on realising new resolves.

“You must have also felt in your life that when you do something for society then the society itself gives us the energy to do much more. Normal sources of inspiration can accomplish great tasks. One such young man is Pradeep Sangwan,” he said.

“Till now, Pradeep has cleared tonnes of plastic waste from different locations of Himalayas,” Modi said, praising Sangwan’s initiative.

Pradeep has added yet another feather in his cap, and this time it’s the brightest one he ever could.

We salute your consistent courage and determination, Himalayan Hero
